Commissioner Katherine Haque-Hausrath

Commissioner Katherine Haque-Hausrath (pronounced "Hawk House Wrath") is an attorney for the Montana Department of Environmental Quality in the Remediation Division, where she works to require polluters to clean up contaminated Superfund sites. She is married to Shahid Haque-Hausrath, an immigration attorney who runs his own law practice in town. Katherine and Shahid have a young son, Desmond, who was born in 2010 at St. Peter's Hospital.
Katherine grew up in Boise, Idaho, and graduated from the University of Montana with a B.A. in Environmental Studies. She received a scholarship to attend the Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she concentrated in Environmental and Energy Law. Katherine also met her future husband while in law school. She worked as an Assistant Attorney General for Environmental Enforcement for the State of Illinois before returning to Montana.
In her free time, Katherine enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, camping, canoeing and snowshoeing with her rescue dog Kava, gardening, reading, and fixing up her 1874 house near downtown Helena.
