Q.      How can I find out about the zoning in my neighborhood?

Q.      Where can I find the zoning ordinance?

The Helena Zoning Ordinance is available online at the City of Helena web page: City Code: Title 11- Zoning. A copy of the City Zoning Ordinance can also be purchase at the Community Development Department located in Room 440 of the City/County Administration Building.

Q.       How do I make an application for a land use change? (Zone change, pre-zone, annexation, conditional use permit (CUP), and variance)

Applications can be found on line at the Community Development forms and applications. A pre-application meeting may be required prior to submitting an application. Please contact Bernadette Lahr at 447-8490 for more information. Applications must be submitted to the planning office in room 440 City County Building, 316 North Park, by the first Monday of the month. Q.       If I live in the County can I get access to city services?

Access to city services can be obtained through the annexation process for properties that are within the serviceable area and/or adjacent to City limits. For more information about Annexation please proceed to the following website: Annexation

Q.      How do I apply for preliminary plat review for a subdivision?

Applications and the required checklist can be found on line at the City of Helena web page, Department- Community Development- forms and applications . A pre-application meeting is required prior to submitting an application. Contact Bernadette Lahr at 447-8490 to schedule that meeting.

Q.     What is a pre-application meeting?

Pre-application meeting is an informal meeting with representatives from various city departments and potential applicants to discuss their development proposal. The discussion is based on information presented by the future applicant. All projects needs to start with a pre-application meeting. The pre-application meetings are held every other Monday at 1:30pm in City County Building Room 326. Please check the Community Development meeting calendar to find the dates set up for these meetings.

Q.   If someone in my neighborhood has an accumulation of junk on their property who do I contact?

Zoning Officer Elroy Golemon processes Community Decay Complaints. (Junked and Abandoned Vehicles are not processed under Community Decay). All complaints must be submitted, signed and written to the Planning Division. For more information about Community decay Complaints please proceed to the Zoning page.

Q. Who do I contact about abandoned vehicles on the street?

Call the Non-Emergency phone number 442-3233 for the Helena Police Department to register an abandoned vehicle complaint.

Q. Who do I contact about Junked vehicles on a property?

Junked vehicles are handled through the Lewis And Clark County Health Department. For moreinformation call (406) 447-8392 and ask to speak to a Sanitarian
