In 1989 the need for a special ceremonial unit was recognized, and the Helena Police Department Honor Guard was implemented. The team has performed in several of the Governor's prayer breakfasts, swearing in ceremonies of the City Mayor and Commissioners, and at Montana Law Enforcement Memorial Services at the Law Enforcement Memorial at Deer Lodge Montana. The Honor Guard also performs at Law Enforcement Appreciation Ceremonies held annually at the Montana State Capitol. The team has also been called upon to perform honor guard duties at funerals of law enforcement officers.
