SRO Mission Statement
To maintain a clean, safe, secure, and uninterrupted learning environment for the students, staff, administration, and parents of School District #1; to provide concentrated assistance in implementing sound crime and violence reduction programs, including components of a safe school climate, community involvement, building design, building security, and maintenance, and the fostering of cooperative relationships between schools and police.
Sergeant Torey Keltner - Helena High School
Sergeant Torey Keltner is a fourth generation Montanan. He grew up in the Flathead Valley and graduated from Flathead High School in 1988. He received an AAS degree in Criminal Justice from the Flathead Valley Community College. Torey moved to the Helena area with his family and his wife graduated from Carroll College.
Sergeant Keltner was hired by the Helena Police Department in the fall of 1999. He started as a patrol officer working various shift details. In 2001 Torey became a School Resource Officer and was assigned to Helena Middle School. In 2004 he was promoted to Corporal and left the schools for a short time. In 2006 Torey was promoted to Sergeant and returned to the school program as their leader. Torey helps with many school and student activities. He enjoys being a positive influence on all people, especially children. Torey coaches football, basketball, and soccer and is proud of all the children he has coached.

Senior Officer Matt Thompson - Capital High School
Senior Officer Matt Thompson has been with the Helena Police Department since 1998. During this time Senior Officer Thompson has served as a patrol officer, Helena Housing Authority Officer, Field Training Officer and is currently a School Resource Officer for Capital High School. Officer Thompson has been an SRO for 4 years. He enjoys working in the school setting and being involved with the youth of our community and teaching students.
During is off time Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. He also enjoys golfing, spending time in the great outdoors and coaching softball.

Officer Shawn Lashway - Helena Middle School
Officer Shawn Lashway grew up in Cascade/Great Falls, Montana. He graduated from Incirlik High School in Incirlik, Turkey in 1988 and moved to Helena in 1994. From September 2001 until December 2006, Shawn was a reserve Deputy Sheriff for the Lewis & Clack County Sheriff's Office and was hired by the Helena Police Department in January 2007. Shawn attended the Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) and graduated in March 2007. Since this time, Shawn has worked in the Patrol Division. In August 2009, Shawn attended the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) Basic School, in Riverton, Wyoming. He completed the school and became a certified School Resource Officer (SRO).
In October 2009, Shawn attended Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Officer Training School in Tigard, Oregon. Shawn became certified as a DARE instructor for teaching all levels of education and adults. In January 2010, Shawn was chosen and assigned to the SRO position at Helena Middle School. He also teaches DARE to the local elementary schools. On September 11, 2009, Officer Lashway was awarded the Humanitarian Award by Chief of Police Troy McGee.
Shawn has been happily married since 1995. He and his wife have one child. Shawn enjoys, cooking, spending time with family and friends at their cabin, racing 4 wheelers, snow and water skiing, rollerblading, being outdoors, and watching the Green Bay Packers football team.

Officer Noal Petty - C R Anderson
Officer Noal Petty has been with the Helena Police Department since April 2007. During this time he has worked the patrol division and motorcycle patrol. Officer Petty began the role of School Resource Officer at CR Anderson in October 2009.
Officer Petty graduated from Belgrade High School in 2000. He attended Montana State University-Bozeman and graduated in May 2006 with a degree in Sociology and a minor in History. Officer Petty attended and graduated the Montana Law Enforcement Academy in June 2007.
In his off time Officer petty enjoys playing all sports and spending time with family and friends. He is also a part of the Helena Police Department Softball Team.
